Diabetic Foot - MUST be screened among Diabetics. Dr.Karthikeyan R @ drkarthikrehab.com

In a person with longstanding diabetes, his feet with reduced sensation, difficulty / clumsiness in walking, dryness and cracking of skin - all these are due to 
Diabetic Foot. Studies say that nearly 25 percent of diabetics are prone for Diabetic Foot- a complication mostly goes unnoticed till late stage. 
As the screening for heart, eyes and kidneys- screening for Diabetic Foot is equally important. Longstanding untreated Diabetic Foot can lead to further complications which can affects one's quality of life to a larger extent. 
Screening and early detection of Sensory disturbances and muscle weakness of Foot can avoid further problems. Strict Glycemic control, Periodical monofilament testing, Biothesiometry, Skin care and Foot wear modifications are very important for having healthy feet among diabetics.
